the current refugee situation in the canary islands is getting worse, a new wave of african immigrants is hitting europe, sometimes hundreds per day. These people are searching a better life and spain is acting as the entrance point. Arriving directly in tourist areas after horrible trips in 20-meter boats, often starving to death, the spanish authorities try to keep the immigrants far away from full beaches in camps. Lots of them are sent back to their country of origin, others are released in the spanish mainland and suffer a "social death", ending up "free" but often in criminality or living in fruit producing "plastic" cities. the european authorities are now observing the mauretanian coast with satellites. starting out with satellite images of freighters and images of transit and port zones, a video installation involving google earth is being in porgress.
